The Repair-Bot is an enemy encountered in System Shock (Remake).
Overview[]
Repair-Bots are primarily tasked with scurrying about maintenance areas of Citadel Station, their small size letting them fit into small areas. They are equipped with a flamethrower and electric shocker, on top of their pinchers. Under normal circumstances they are used for repairs but they can be repurposed for combat.
Strategy[]
Tactical Analysis[]
The repair-bots are enemies notorious for their blowtorch, which while having a surprisingly long range will also apply a burning damage-over-time effect on the player. Their secondary attack is a much shorter range electric arc.
They're not particularly tough or armored and can be taken down with ease even with melee weapons, that being said attempting to do so will leave the player exposed to retaliation with their relatively long-range flamer, which means that it is a good idea to shoot these robots with standard 9mm ammunition or your dedicated energy weapon.
It is possible to keep baiting the bot into using it's arc-welder instead of it's flamer by quickly getting in range, waiting for the beginning of the attack then retreating, albeit the timing is somewhat awkward and might result in either being hit by the welder, or the bot getting time to squeeze in a barrage from it's flamer.
Being small in size and keeping a low profile while crawling along the ground makes this robot somewhat annoying to aim at, while also leaving the possibility for the repair-bot to surprise a distracted player if they're not paying attention.
Overall Strategy[]
Repair bots are relatively rare enemies, encountered in numbers only in a single room in the entire game. They're sprinkled in maintenance and construction areas in the early parts of the game, and rarely appear in CPU rooms as well. They cease to be a danger the instant the player acquired any firearm at all.
The Minipistol loaded with standard ammo or the Sparqbeam on High setting are the most painless and efficient way of destroying these enemies although bashing them to death with a melee weapon is also a viable approach if the player isn't afraid of taking some damage from the flamethrower.
