The Psi Booster combines a complex mix of psychoactive chemicals, some of them quite powerful, and refined annelid tissue. Many of the chemicals have enzymatically bonded to the annelid tissue fragments, many of them since construction of the hypo, as if the annelid tissue is still biologically active. Long-term usage may well cause hallucinatory side effects.

Using one will increase your Psionic Ability stat by 1 for 5 minutes (6 minutes with Pharmo-Friendly O/S Upgrade), but it must be Researched first, requiring 1 Iridium and 1 Sodium. It is important to note that the effect will automatically expire if the player goes through a Bulkhead or any other level transition or even loads the game in which the booster have been used before saving. Length of the effect does not accumulate with more hypos used. Therefore it's advisable to use them one-by-one as they stop working.

Analysis

• This Hypo does not have the anti-duplication protection that was installed in the standard Psi Hypo, and thus can be psionically duplicated with the Molecular Duplication power. Duplication is also important because Psi Boosters are not sold in any Replicator machines.
• Psi Boosters do not increase maximum Psi Points. They only affect the power of Psionic Ability-dependent Psionic Disciplines.

Trivia

• This item can be studied without learning any Research skill if a charged LabAssistant™ Implant is equipped.
  • Moreover, it is possible to analyze the item at the speed of Research skill level 2, while it's still at level 0!
    This trick is performed by equipping the LabAssistant™, starting the research and then unequipping the Implant. Furthermore, the Implant's energy storage will not be consumed if the trick is done fast enough.
• Prior to v2.47, the Psi Booster could not be researched until reaching the Operations Deck's chemical storeroom, due to the required Sodium first being found there. v2.47 added a single Sodium to the Hydroponics Deck in the lower level of Sector B, allowing the Psi Booster to be researched sooner.
