Hello, I was wondering if you wanted to join our (this wikis) Discord server, I know you haven't been active here lately and you may already know about it, but I thought I'd send an invite incase you were interested.
Hi Hathomirr! My name is Shrev, and I’m the Fandom Wiki Manager for SHODANPEDIA, The System Shock Wiki. I am here to help the community and be a liaison to full-time Fandom staff. If you ever have a question or issue relating to the wiki, editing, styling, infoboxes, templates, etc., please feel free to contact me on my wall, or on Discord at Shrev64#0089.
That's good. I'd offer some additional help, but I can't promise I'd be around often enough to make a significant impact. Was there anything major that still needed to be done (at least, until the remake is finally released)?
Just tried to add possible loot to some SS1 enemies and noticed the template doesn't have the 'loot' bit, I don't have edit permissions and frankly not sure I know how to add them. Can we get this ability added so the SS1 enemy infoboxes can show possible loot like the SS2 enemies?
Ah yeah, all the infoboxes are protected pages to help prevent stealthy edits (since they don't show up on the main activity feed). I can add that to the infobox, but I don't think the enemies in the first game have a set drop rate for specific items. The second game does, and the information was taken from the strategy guide. It would be a good idea to find a source that provides legitimate drop information before we go through with this.
Also, I'm going to mention this here so as not to start a new thread - Junk items really don't need their own page. This has come up before earlier on, so I'd like to reiterate this for newcomers before it gets out of control. The junk items in SS2 still have a use for creating nanites (although, depending on what sort of conclusion we reach on this, I may merge all of those articles into one "Junk Items" page since technically they're still too minor to warrant their one article), but SS1 junk items do not. Considering how many there are in the game, it would be unnecessary clutter to the wiki. I'm going to await your response before I go and delete these, but please don't add any more.
EDIT - One more thing, I moved your information from the "Surgery Machine" page to Medic Autodoc, as I mentioned in the other thread that we already have one as well as an image.
A merge sounds great, I just wanted to get them added *somewhere*, and thought about a merge but wasn't sure about that step until a more senior member chimed in. Feel free to nuke the pages after you have a suitable one-stop-shop (as it were) for the junk items. I'll refrain from adding the last couple (there actually aren't that many compared to SS2 which makes perfect sense) until that time.
Alright, I've created the Junk Items page and moved all the contents you started adding over there. In time, I'll also begin moving the junk from SS2 there.
I'll take care of getting the sprites as well (I have a program set up to extract them from the game files). Just for future reference, It's generally a good idea to avoid uploading oversized and skewed images, whether it be directly from a screenshot or another image you find online (the text on the severed head image is one such example).
Essentially, anything that's not its original size or of poor quality. The sprites are actually a lot smaller than the ones you recently uploaded, which conflicts with the rest of the images in that pool. It's a matter of consistency as well.
The only other thing I would mention would be that when uploading in game screenshots, make sure that the interface is not shown in it (check out the SS level articles for some examples).
I'm glad I could help out. Initially I joined the wiki due to the lack of information on the first game, and it just went from there. While my contributions have been sorely lacking as of late, I'm glad there are still others around to help - you, Kelis98 and Plokijuh have been invaluable to the wikis continued growth this past year.
I've got a few more things I'd like to get onto here, though it'll require another playthrough of the first game. Hopefully we'll be able to handle the influx of new content once the remaster comes along, and eventually SS3.
I just noticed a criminal lack of entries under the original System Shock category myself. Everything from healing beds to plot items (like the intact head you use for the retinal scanner) to the "Soylent Green" easter egg.
Thanks for adding the Severed Head item, that one went over my head (pun... intended, I guess). We actually already have the Surgery Machine page, but its categorized as under "Environment" and not "Items", as items only apply to pickups.
I also don't believe I'm familiar with the Soylent Green reference. Care to elaborate? :P
In level 3 there is a relay panel in the northern section labelled "Soylant Green Filtration". It looks the same as all the others and you have to click on it to see the unique label. IIRC there's at least one other easter egg on the same level.
Isn't it though? That's half of the appeal of this game. And I only found it in the first place because of being an old-school gamer where if you didn't click on EVERYTHING you got stuck in the first ten minutes.
Hey I haven't been on here in awhile but I was playing the demo and wondering if someone should put pictures for some of the things in the demo on here. Since it's pre-alpha there's a chance what's there might change, but I was just curious as to what you wanted to do.
Ah sorry, I thought you meant you'd just be uploading more screenshots of the gameplay itself, not specific items/enemies. No worries though, we can keep what you have for now (though I deleted the two weapon images since we already have 2 that show them much clearer in the pre-release footage).
Right now, I've been trying to get in contact with another admin on here, who hasn't been active since I last spoke to him a few months ago. I was hoping to create a better tabber system so we could separate the classic and remastered content more efficiently on the same article without having to create separate ones. Until we have a better way of implementing that, I'd prefer we keep all remastered images off of the articles.
Hello. I am a staff member of Wikia and part of what I do includes creating new communities for Kickstarter funded games that do not currently have a community. Will Shodanpedia be covering the System Shock reboot by Nightdive Studios? The Kickstarter funding was successful.
Right now we've got an article created for the game itself, but will be holding off on going beyond that until it's released. I've spoken with another admin on here about creating a template to divide certain articles into 2 sections, so we don't have to mix information with the classic's content or create a separate article for an existing topic.
Hello, glad to see someone is putting some heavy work on this wiki - god knows it needs it.
Can you check my comment on the front page talk page and see what you think regarding that? I would love to return to help with the wiki now that there's some actual hope and interest around it and I'm particularly better at making templates and structure and design and the like (with CSS).
Hey there, nice to see the return of another admin. ;)
Regarding the change to the main page, are you referring to this? I remember stumbling upon this on a standalone sandbox page (I think), but I cannot seem to find it again.
It looks like the reversion took place before I joined this wiki, but I actually really like it, and think it would be very much preferable to what we currently have as the main page. We could set that up asap if you'd like, or wait til the appropriate icons are made for the contents boxes.
And hey, I'd definitely appreciate the help. I've been trying to get all articles and info/navboxes properly organized and structured since i got here, but I still have much to do and am not always active.
I'm not sure why it was reverted. Personally I think it looks much neater. Naturally it'd also need to be updated a little bit to fix it up for SS3 and generally to get the icons put in. I think it would be a better idea to wait until the nice icons are there to make it work better.
Happy to help. There's always more to do (At one point I started uploading all of the audio logs until I got bored...) but I hope we can make it a great wiki!
Yes, there it is. I was afraid something had happened to it.
And sure, we can hold off on it for now. With the Remaster and SS3 in the works, I'm unsure as to the potential influx of new contributors here. Feel free to resume operations, and I'll contribute when I can. ;)
