KE-41 Minipistol is a weapon in System Shock (Remake).
Overview[]
The semiautomatic minipistol is located on Level 1-Medical. It is a basic weapon, ideal for fighting low-tier enemies, given its low damage output and slow fire rate, although it can be significantly improved with weapon mods. It is the first ballistic-type weapon the player finds. The damaged variant is worth 3 credits or 15 scrap.
It is useful for the earlier levels of the game while fighting humanoid mutants, cyborg drones, and maintenance bots. It is also useful for shooting security cameras if out of melee range. However, starting level 4-Storage, it may be a good idea to replace it with its bigger sister: the Magnum 2100 Pistol. This and many other weapons with ammo system can be reloaded in inventory menu effectively saving reload animation time. Same can be done for ammo type.
Combat analysis[]
The weapon is capable of firing 9mm standard rounds, or Teflon-coated rounds, both with the same damage output, however, Teflon rounds have significantly higher armor penetration, making them more suitable for shooting robot-type enemies and heavy armored cyborgs. Against mutants, it's generally best to stick to standard rounds. When the gun is loaded with Teflon rounds, blue corners will appear around the ammo counter to denote the different ammunition.
There are two mod kit upgrades available for the minipistol, one located in Level 1-Medical, and another in Level R-Reactor. The former increases magazine capacity from 10 to 20 rounds; the latter increases damage by roughly 10% (20 to 22) and adds a 3-round burst mode, which can be switched on and off at will. These upgrades make the pistol viable at later levels, capable of downing heavier enemies with a few bursts of fire. The upgrades also make the pistol look different and take up more space in your inventory as most upgrades do.
Ammo for the minipistol is also, by far, the most abundant (maybe tied with energy batteries, if you count them as ammo), and can be dropped by many enemies or found in many containers.
