The electromagnetic bursts from the JW-/6 are designed to penetrate shielding and disrupt even the most heavily armored of robots. The electricity it produces can be deadly to organic targets, but itis not recommended for this purpose. Up to three rounds can be chambered at a time.

JW-76 Mag-Pulse Rifle is a weapon in System Shock (Remake). Compared to the original game, the remake version has received a few appearance changes.

Overview[]

The JW-76 Mag-Pulse Rifle can be located as soon as Level 1-Medical, in an armory unlocked by conquering (destroying the core) the cyberspace terminal. It is advised to get it at this point since it will prove extremely useful against robots (e.g. security-1 bots) the player will encounter until the point where it can be "officially" found. It is also advised to stock some Tricredits in order to buy an ammo pack or two from the dispenser machine in the same room, as Magnetic-Pulse Cartridges are practically nonexistent on earlier levels. This and many other weapons with ammo system can be reloaded in inventory menu effectively saving reload animation time. Same can be done for ammo type.

Combat analysis[]

It is very effective against robots as it fires electromagnetic bursts, completely piercing their armor on impact and dealing additional damage over the next few seconds. Unlike its equivalent in the original game, it will also damage organic targets, but its value is wasted for this purpose. The player must be careful when firing it at a short distance since its blast radius will damage health and drain energy at the same time.

Shots will not travel a strictly straight line, like bullets, but rather obey a parabolic curve, like a grenade. This must be taken into consideration when firing at long range. It is also worth noting that the total damage is not instant, but rather damage over time in roughly 3 seconds, so one should take cover until the enemy is dispatched or needs to take another shot.

The weapon also has the capability of shooting 1 or 2 charges at one given time; by pressing the fire mode key the player is able to load an additional cartridge into the chamber, duplicating ammo consumption, but also damage per second.

One upgrade mod kit is available for the Mag-Pulse Rifle in Level 6-Executive, in Beta Grove. The mod increases damage output at the cost of energy. 3v of energy are used when the player shoots the weapon and/or pumps another cartridge into the chamber.
