The DC-05 Riot Gun is a weapon found in System Shock.

Overview[]

For riot situations, this gun provides maximum knock-back with minimal damage (recommended for neutralizing less-dangerous targets).

The Riot Gun deals exceptionally low damage, making it a poor choice for most combat scenarios. It's capable of pushing various entities around, and is usually used to relocate live land mines or to push enemies into them. It can be particularly useful in Engineering as one of the scarce medical beds is surrounded with land mines that can not otherwise be dealt with without destroying the bed.

Along with the Stun Gun it was not designed for inflicting lethal damage and should not be relied on in a combat situation.

Due to what seems like a programming oversight, if the player uses a keyboard bind to reload the Riot Gun once picked up, it will be loaded with the Magnum 2100's Hollow-Tip Rounds. This turns the Riot Gun into an exceptionally powerful weapon, as it can be fired as fast as the trigger is pulled (unlike the Magnum's limited fire rate), while retaining the high damage per shot. If the player is to reload the Riot Gun using the icon on the MFD, the Rubber Slugs will be loaded and the gun will no longer use Hollow-Tip Rounds for the rest of the game.

Trivia[]

  • Most of the weapons' names in System Shock are derived from the initials of the game's makers. In this case, DC stands for Doug Church.
  • There is only one Riot Gun in the game, located on the Storage Level.
  • The appearance of this gun seems to be based on a combination of the Milkor Stopper and Heckler & Koch HK69A1 grenade launchers. Interestingly enough, the former is designed as a less lethal anti-riot device, similar to the DC-05.
  • The Riot Gun was one of several weapons completely removed from System Shock (Remake). In its place is the SK-27 Shotgun as well as the unique weapon in Level 4 - Storage is the EM-83 Grenade Launcher.
